Building, Hunting and Exploring
We have had a marvellous week of construction and building as the children have created obstacle courses from crates, planks and tyres. On Monday our builds were basic, by Wednesday they were challenging and today we have had a detailed tricky course to challenge all ages!
Our craft area has been very popular as bracelets made with beads have been strung together, junk art has been created from boxes, card, egg cartons and masking tape and drawings of all sorts of things have been penned.
Our sensory area has been a special place for all the children this week as we have crushed old blackberries from our bushes to create purple paint and made multi coloured play-dough and squished it into pancakes and pizzas. We also experienced a yucky texture as we squished and squeezed an oaty, gloopy mix, but by adding all manner of leaves, sticks, and wood shavings to it, we created a new and tickly, sticky texture.
Our prehistoric land has been a vital area of learning and sharing as we dug for hidden dinosaurs, avoided exploring volcanoes, and made up stories of T-Rexs, diplodocuses and velociraptors.
Our blessed rain showers have brought some relief to our very dry forest as the trees and plants have been revived and drunk their fill. Rain also means it’s time for bug hunting, and we have found so many lovely slugs and snails, earwigs and woodlice, as well as an amazing spider with a huge red bottom and a white body and legs. We are always respectful of our bugs, and ensure we don’t interrupt them, as we are aware they might bite us.
And finally, our tiny little caterpillars who were all so small when we first got them, grew and grew and turned into chrysalises. Waiting patiently all week we were finally rewarded with 5 beautiful Painted Lady butterflies! Having broken free from their chrysalis, they had to wait until their wings inflated and dried out. They sipped at the sugar water we provided and then one by one flew away.
What a wonderful week! We wish all of our term-time families a wonderful summer break, and look forward to seeing our full day children & holiday campers next week!
