Our week in the forest!
With a sharp dip in the temperature this week we have bundled up with more layers, including hats, gloves and snoods. We enjoyed running games and dancing in the first snowfall of winter. My goodness they were huge snow flakes! But sadly they didn’t settle. It was very exciting to see them falling so fast and thick from the sky! To help keep us warm during the afternoons we have enjoyed cups of warm hibiscus tea and warm apple juice.
At the beginning of the week we had a visit from the ToothBeary Dentist which was very exciting. The children learned how to brush their own teeth and practised with a giant set of teeth and a brush. They learnt about food they can eat and foods to avoid, as well as learning about cavities.
We have loved learning about the Moomins by Tove Jansson,
a beautiful set of stories set in Finland. Inspired by the stories of fishing and the Moomins recycling ethos, the children have created Moomin homes and fishing rods and danced around to the harmonica played by a staff member.
Scavenger hunts and obstacle courses have challenged our problem solving and balancing skills. We have so many autumn leaves falling at the moment that we are ankle deep in beautiful copper coloured plane tree leaves. Losing things has become the norm, we have to kick our way through the leaves to find them again!
Painting, sensory goop, weaving, playdough and instant photography have kept our little fingers and our curious minds engaged. Our music corner has also been very jolly as we have sung our favourite songs and beat the rhythm with sticks upon the logs.
Thanks for coming to the forest, see you next time!
