Wimbledon -The Magic of Winter

Our Week in the Forest

The magic of winter has well and truly arrived at Little Forest Folk Wimbledon and this week we had our first snow of the season! The excitement on the children's faces as the huge white flakes cascaded down was amazing! They tried to catch them on their tongues and see who had the biggest flake. We also looked at the different patterns of each flake, trying to see if we could spot any that were similar.

To keep warm this week we have had lots of hot drinks in the forest which the children had the opportunity to make themselves. There have been different flavoured children's teas, hot milk and hot chocolate. One day we had a fire where we warmed the milk in a pan on top and then the children mixed in their flavours themselves. Such a nice, tasty way to keep toasty in the forest!

There have also been lots of movement games to keep everyone warm, including a lot of time on the obstacle course and going on adventure walks. Each day the children become more confident in their climbing and balancing abilities so the way they approach the obstacle course is different. We climb over the pallets and slide down the other side, we balance along planks that then turn into seesaws. It is great to see how our little adventurers can put their thoughts into action and move the pieces to how they want them to be.

It has looked and felt magical this week in the forest as the frost has covered the ground and puddles have frozen over. We can’t wait for more wintery wonder in the coming weeks!
