Our Week in the Forest
In a week where winter returned with a vengeance, we have adapted and modified our plans in order to keep our little explorers warm and safe!
We started the week learning all about the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, with Jordan. We learned about the different colours that the sky projects and what makes this naturally occurring light show. We were so interested in the process here that we decided to create our very own Northern lights in the forest, consisting of various glowing pieces of tissue paper stuck onto a very large piece of cardboard.
On Wednesday, sleet and snow made a guest appearance that added to the bitter cold air, we decided to base ourselves indoors for the day. This gave us the chance to do some slightly different activities than usual! We have been looking at natural wonders of the world such as the Great Barrier Reef. Some of the children decided it would be cool to make our own, so that’s what we did! We made mini egg box lobsters and fish and hung them from string, to resemble them in our very own mini Great Barrier Reef.
We have enjoyed our planned adventure walks onto the Common, where we collected natural materials for our Great Barrier Reef! We have tried to spot nature that has frozen over, we saw thistles, leaves and spider webs that were all frozen over with frost and ice!
We are looking forward to more slightly higher temperatures returning next week and getting back out into our forest as usual!
Have a great weekend everyone!
