Our Week in the Forest
Our Week in the Forest
Itβs the first week of our autumn term and we were fall-ing over with excitement to welcome back our full-timers and greet our wonderful new starters too! πβ¨
The weather certainly got the memo - maybe a little all too well! πππ§£It gave us the full autumn experience this week: one minute it was sunshine and perfect jumper-and-shorts weather and the next, it was full-on trench (or should we say βtrench-rainβ!) coat conditions! βοΈβ‘οΈπ§οΈ
Luckily, we were well prepared with our trusty tarps and some top-notch planning.
No one got drenched on our watch - just a little extra splash of adventure! leaf it to us to make the most of all the weather! ππ§‘πποΈπ¦οΈ
πͺ What a show-stopping start to the week! π€ΉββοΈβ¨ The week began with a flipping success as we rolled out our very own circus set-up! ποΈ From the moment the tent (well, tarp!) went up, it was clear the day was going to make the greatest show. π Coming back after a big break can be tough (understandably so after a change in routine) and our new starters were stepping into a whole new ring. But everyone found their footing and jumped back beautifully - it was a 10/10 landing all around! π€ΈββοΈπ― Extra points for style in their Little Forest Folk gear - talk about best dressed under the big top!
π« Once on site, we had all the makings of a mini circus: πͺ A balance beam to test our tightrope skills; A jumping horse for daring acrobatics π And circus ribbons to twirl and twirl! All perfect for practicing those all-important gross motor skills - and of course, no circus is complete without a bit of dressing up razzmatazz! ππ©πWeβre not clowning around - Monday was one for the (circus) books! ππͺπ₯
Tuesdayβs wow activity was absolutely conkers! ππ¨π° With acorns, pinecones and conkers starting to tumble from the trees, what better way to celebrate the changing season than with a bit of clay creativity?
The children got stuck into a hands-on, sensory session using natureβs finest autumnal treasures to make beautiful imprints in clay. ππ The results? Some stunning seasonal decorations! π
In the afternoon, we got moving with some construction role play using all sorts of loose parts! πͺ΅π§± π§ π οΈπ·ββοΈ There were tyres to roll, planks to balance, caution tape to mark out our building zones and even some builder-chic dressing-up kits. It was time to lay the foundations for some serious fun! π¦Ίπ§
We were on a roll (literally, with those tyres!) when a few surprise showers rolled in - just like Monday. But no worries! We nailed our response by dashing under our cosy tarps, where we cemented our afternoon with some fantastic story sharing. ππ§οΈ Rain or shine, we always build good memories π§±
Wednesday had us jumping, catching, and collaborating like champions! π
π€π― We got our blood pumping with skipping ropes, bouncy balls and some very special Velcro catching mitts paired with tennis balls - all perfect for this weekβs focus on teamwork and tool use! β
π οΈ It felt like our very own mini Olympics in the forest! And with the wild weather swinging between sunshine, wind and sudden showers, we couldβve been travelling the globe like real Olympians - we experienced all four seasons in a single day! πππ§οΈππ¨ π₯ππ³ In the afternoon, we set off on a forest adventure walk with a foraging focus! πWe searched high and low for acorns, conkers and any fallen leaves we could find. You might say it was a grounding activity ππ°π nothing like a walk among the trees to leaf you feeling both calm and curious! ππ£β¨
π Thursday was totally wild as we entered the jungle! π΄π We had a snappy start to the day with a special crocodile theme! Our homemade cardboard crocs were perfect for a life-sized twist on Hungry Hippos - it was jaw-some fun! ππ―π But the animal antics didnβt stop there! We got into character with jungle animal masks and some roarsome face painting too - it was a real zoo-per time! π―π¨π¦
The weather was a bit of a wild beast itself - all sunshine one moment and wild rain the next - but when it looked gorgeous and sunny, we made the most of it with a jungle adventure scavenger hunt! ππ Armed with a special checklist of natural treasures to find, we went exploring through the undergrowth - it was a real tree-t for our mini kings and queens of the jungle! ππΏπ¦
π All in all, itβs safe to say we had a, leaf-kicking, circus-flipping, conker-collecting, jungle-exploring amazing first week back! ππͺππ οΈ
Weβre already buzzing with excitement for next weekβs adventuresβ¦ we canβt wait to see what unfolds in the forest! π³β¨
