Our Week in the Forest
At our Morden Forest this week, we've been focusing on our Communication and Language development through our set ups, activities and free play! Helping the children to grow confidence in their language and expression is really helpful for the first week of term, so that children can help us understand their needs and ideas!
One of our fabulous play spaces was turned into a fabulous painting space where the children could paint with cooked spaghetti!! The textures, colours and shapes were so brilliant for the youngest and the oldest of our children, it was a brilliant way to welcome our friends into the forest with fun and expression, especially while talking about the way it feels and looks ✨
One of our adult led activities this week, while we were sheltering from the storm, was making some animal masks! It was lovely to see the children using such rich language to describe each animal and their unique features - "my tiger is stripy!" and "my monkey has a fuzzy chin!". The children then jumped into more imaginative play with their masks once the storm cleared and we could get wild outside!
Another fabulous play opportunity we had was the Morden bus route! The children had so much fun talking about the destinations of their journeys on the bus. One of the children made sure there was a ramp 'for people with wheelchairs' so that everyone can jump on for a ride! After a little while, the children decided to involve their construction interest in their play and became a 'builders van'.
We love seeing where the children take their free play! What a lovely start to the new academic year!
