Wimbledon - Winter Walks and an Abundance of Life & Nature

Our Week in the Forest

This week, we have enjoyed lots of fun adventure walks with our educators. One walk was themed all about what can we see? Our educators, Anamika and Olivia, created a musical tune for us to ask and answer this question! We headed out towards the doggy meadow and to our joy we watched many many dogs run round the meadow chasing and playing with each other, some of whom were taller than us! We spotted trees, grass, dogs, fences and even a horse! It was as we went through a holy tree tunnel and turned round, we saw a giant brown horse riding through the common, it was a great delight for many of us as horses are our favourite animals! On another adventure walk, our focus was the mushrooms. We searched high and low on a rainy day to see what mushrooms we could find. We discussed the size, colour and location of the mushrooms, challenging us to compare these details for each mushroom. We learnt how to use the words bigger and smaller in context as well as prepositions such as: 'under', 'above' and 'next too'! We even found a Candle-snuff mushroom!

As it’s our last full week of term, we’ve been prepping and talking more about Christmas! We’ve enjoyed some seasonal tuff trays. One day, our educators Nicole and Anamika organised a snow tuff tray and Antarctic animal tuff tray. Celebrating the differences between our climate and others. We practised our early writing skills by copying patterns drawn out on cardboard pieces and then even challenged ourselves learning and sharing our sounds that start our names. We then were able to write our letters and compare any similarities in the spelling of our names.

Another day, we enjoyed the animal tuff tray where we used recyclable objects and painted them into decorations to fit the Antarctic theme before adding other materials to explore. We imagined the tin foil wrapped blocks as ice reflecting the sunlight of the water. Lastly, we enjoyed learning how to make play dough with Lucy. Lucy dropped some lemon oils into the mixture to make it smell delightful before adding green dye so we could make all the Christmas trees possible using cookie cutters to make the shapes.

A wonderful week, we wish you all a wonderfully festive few weeks!
