Wimbledon Village - A Very Dramatic Week!

Our Week in the Forest

This week has been a very ‘dramatic’ week! The children have enjoyed adventure walks everyday and considered all the things that need ‘tickets’ - from trains, to shows, to playgrounds. Educators have used lots of ‘Panto’ language (“Oh no we haven’t!”) to make the camp feel festive and over the week, we have all thought about what ‘evil plans’ we all might have - all very panto-like! Paula’s evil plan was to give the rest of the staff a box of After Eights, with all the chocolates gone - but with the wrappers still in the box (VERY Evil!) and some of our wonderfully ‘naughty’ children thought about putting ice in Sam’s hood and putting it back on his head! Other children had ideas around hiding Jamie’s shoes in the brambles and finally, the pièce de résistance was a child considering popping on Jordan’s bicycle just before he rode home! Obviously we all practised our ‘evil’ laughs alongside this - so please be prepared at home for evil plans coming to fruition!

One afternoon, Sam took the hood off his Mini-van, so we could look at the parts of the engine, he showed us the radiator, engine, spark plugs and talked us through what each part did, the children also found where Sam would need to put petrol into the engine and we all decided that it was a little smelly as it is quite an old car! (“Oh no it isn’t!”). Educators also used one of the camp’s favourite books, ‘Things That Move’ as inspiration for our young mechanics to create a range of vehicles, including fire engines and monster trucks. In addition to this, Sam provided us with some empty boxes after his move and these became all manner of vehicles for the children, from Santa’s Sleigh to a truck to carry tarmac to some road works!

This week our explorers have been so brave in the face of some very inclement weather, so we have been considering words that we can use to describe our mornings and days in the forest too - the words have been; misty, gloomy, damp, slippery, wet, pink, grey and for Thursday - torrential! Some of our children were also able to create some wonderfully glittery Christmas cards, when weather allowed.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone - we’re sure we will! (“Oh no you won’t!”)
