Our Week in the Forest
What a hive of activity it has been at Winkworth this week with lots of discussions and decision-making to be had.
We had a fruity start to the week by exploring some of our favourite or least favourite fruits. We had a polling station where the children could talk about their favourite fruits, debate as to why they are the best and then match them up and post them into the polling station. There were apples, oranges, bananas and grapes to choose from and our little explorers got into discussions about how they tasted different and if they needed to peel them, some children said it was their favourite fruit simply because it was their favourite colour.
Later, we explored some apple printing with the apples and even cooked some on the fire, delicious!
We went on a gorgeous walk into the Arboretum which sparked up map reading, discussions on which route to take along with some lovely leaf identification along the way. The leaves had all turned such lovely colours that we couldn't stop observing them.
On Wednesday we saw the children making some animal dens. This was a great problem-solving activity which also enabled lots of team work. Our little adventurers had a horse stable to engage with as well as some wheelbarrows filled with sawdust and twigs to use as the hay.
Thursday was filled with flowers. There was a flower polling station where a water lily became a firm favourite as well as a poppy being close second. Our Little Forest Folk-ers engaged in some sensory play with a perfumery in the mud kitchen. They collected some fallen petals and used measuring jugs with scented water to make up their own gorgeous scents.
On Friday we celebrated with Pudsey the Bear for Children in Need. We had eye patches around our bears, a doctor's station, as well as an ear-making activity so we could all look like Pudsey.
What a great week, we look forward to more adventures after the weekend!
