Our Week in the Forest
A week of snow, frost and ice has led to lots of exploring and discoveries in the forest this week!
We have kept warm by going on some fun adventure walks and looking for all signs of the cold weather; everything from frozen ponds to frosty leaves! The children took some magnifying glasses to explore the different patterns on the leaves, looking at how the frost formed and what shapes they could see. We looked at the different shapes that the ice had made and also tested the thickness of the ice by poking sticks into it. We picked some of the pieces up and the children tested if they could see through the ice or if it was too thick. We then threw it onto the floor and watched it smash into tiny pieces.
We also had a rocket launcher in the forest! We were testing how high the rocket could go and everyone had to make their predictions of where it would land. We then took it in turns to jump onto the launch pad and see how far it would go, watching as it flew through the air!
There has also been lots of mud kitchen cooking using leaves, ice and mud to create some delicious meals! There have been craft activities where the children could create their own winter pictures using items they found around them.
It's been a fun and exciting week with the snow making an appearance and we look forward to seeing what next week brings!
