Our Week in the Forest
The sun has been shining at Little Forest Folk Wimbledon this week! We have enjoyed all the perks of spring, looking at the flowers and blossoms which are adding lots of colour to our site and we’ve also loved seeing all the baby bunnies begin to hop their way around. This weather is perfect for the forest and we have spent the week engaged in so many fun activities!
We have been celebrating Holi this week - the festival of colours, love and spring. Bright colours have been used for painting, colourful ribbons hung up to run through and lots of powder paint to play with. The children spent time reading a book about Holi before engaging in some powder paint play where they could mix the colours together or put them on their hands to make prints. It was great to see them have an idea of why we were celebrating and also enjoy the fun that comes with it!
We have also been busy with our tool work again. This week the children spent time sawing a pallet to make it into a chair for our book area. They took turns to cut each section and then fit the parts together to create a cosy zone for reading. This then linked well with World Book Day as we could spend time here enjoying our favourite stories with our friends and educators! Some of our favourites included “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, “10 Little Dinosaurs” and “The Gruffalo”. We even created a log caterpillar with each section being a different colour and painted a giant Gruffalo and mouse!
As we step into spring we have also spent time looking for bugs that are coming out of their hidden homes, spotting the bunnies hopping around the meadow and even finding thousands of tiny frogspawn in the river! Such an exciting time to be outside!
