Our Week in the Forest
This week we have been thinking about caring for ourselves and our environment, in particular trees, teeth and ourselves - especially when trying to keep warm and dry!
Firstly we took adventure walks, looking at the woodland around us, trying to spot local evergreen trees. We found some lovely fir trees and holly and talked about the importance of not eating any berries found! We also reminded ourselves and curious members of the local community, how important it was not to eat mushrooms found on our walks too, linking this to our very important rule: No picking and No licking!
While talking about trees, we focused on trees that were popping up in our homes, Christmas trees! The children loved telling us about their Christmas trees going up, twinkly lights going on and advent calendars being opened. To celebrate, we painted our cut pallet, to create a green base for our wooden tree to sit outside of our nursery. Next we will be creating decorations and putting lights on… if the rain stops and allows us too!
We also practised our hill climbing skills, hauling ourselves up hill, using a rope around a tree, really developing our core, arm and shoulder muscles while doing this.
Other than that, we decorated cardboard trees (on our dry day!), played games of bears and bunnies and What’s the time Mr Wolf?, built towers, ran like Ginger Bread Men and tried to keep warm and dry (not always successfully!)
