Fulham - Indoor Adventures & Wild Weather!

Our Week in the Forest

Monday was a wild day in the forest! The winds were so strong that Fulham Palace had to close its gardens to the public. 💨🌬️That meant we had to head indoors🌬️🪟- sad at first because the wind was pretty exciting - but it turned out to be a special treat! With the gardens closed, we had the whole inside of the palace to ourselves and we certainly made the most of it.

We set off on an indoor adventure. Of course at Little Forest Folk we love the great outdoors, but an adventure is still an adventure rain, shine, or strong winds - especially when you have an adventurous mindset! We explored the chapel and the museum where we discovered some incredible animal bones and fossils. It was absolutely dino-mite! 🦴

In the afternoon, while the wind continued to blow outside, we took our indoor space by storm. The highlight? Practising our fine motor skills with a fruit peeling and cutting activity. All and all it was pretty grape! 🍇

On Tuesday we were grateful that some of Monday’s wind had stuck around - just enough for us to hoist the sails and head out on a grand pirate adventure! 🌬️🏴‍☠️⚓️

With a mighty wind at our backs, we set sail aboard the Muddy Pearl - our trusty vessel, complete with a giant steering wheel, cozy sleeping cabins, a deck perfect for scrubbing, and of course, a menacing flag flying high!  🏴‍☠️

The seas around us were stormy, but that didn’t stop a few friendly mermaids from joining our maiden voyage. 🧜🧜‍♀️ Our brave young captains set their sights on a daring destination: Hong Kong - a 42-day journey across the high seas! Thankfully our ship was stocked with plenty of grub and pirate-themed books to keep us shipshape and entertained. 📚📚📚

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing - there was plenty of pirate pandemonium to go around! ⚓ We set up a pearl-harvesting station, where little pirates used their fine motor skills to dig through the sand and shells in search of hidden treasures. It was the perfect booty-building activity! 💰👑💎 Nearby, the flag decorating station was in full swing, ensuring the Muddy Pearl would be recognised far and wide by fellow sea-farers.

It was a swashbuckling success of a day - full of laughter, imagination, and a hull lot of fun. Truly a jolly rogering good time!

On Wednesday, the nursery was closed - which was super sad - but it gave the whole of Team Fulham the opportunity to head to Wimbledon for a staff training day. We spent the day focussing on the topics of whistleblowing, safeguarding and how best to support children with SEND, which was all super valuable. While we definitely missed being out in the forest, we felt very grateful for the opportunity to deepen our knowledge and strengthen our practice. 🤓

On Thursday we brought things a little closer to home - with a cosy domestic set-up that was just what we needed after our big training day! It felt good to be “home,” and we wasted no time getting stuck into some real-life role play!

We had a washing line out for some splashy water play 🧺- perfect for enjoying the last drops of summer. It wasn’t exactly warm, but with the autumn equinox 🍂 just around the corner, we figured we’d squeeze in one last splash before it gets too chilly! ❄️

Our garden turned into a busy household hub 🏠 - complete with a picnic area 🧺🍎, some babies who needed a few emergency nappy changes 🍼🧸, and a car 🚗 ready to run some errands... anyone need anything taken to the dump? 🗑️

Of course, the car needed a little TLC too! 🧽🔧 So we set up a car wash and a mechanic’s station. Our homebodies scrubbed and fixed like pros 🧑‍🔧.

All in all, it was a wonderfully homey day - proving that whether you're doing the laundry 🧺, changing nappies 🧷, or cleaning the family car 🚙, there’s always some magic to be enjoyed ✨🏡💛

We love autumn in the forest! As pinecones and acorns hit the ground with a satisfying thud, it's like music to our ears (did someone say natural resources?).

The colours in the forest are absolutely stunning this time of year, and there’s nothing we enjoy more than an adventure walk to soak it all in - and that’s exactly what we got up to! 🍁

We searched for beautiful autumn leaves to use in our upcoming crafts and took the opportunity to observe all the incredible changes happening in the natural world around us.

Autumn in the forest is all about mushroom-spotting, natural crafts, and truly building an appreciation for the shifting seasons. So of course, we had to celebrate with a bang! 🌰🍄🎉 Anyone for a celebratory babyccino?

All in all, it was a fantastic week - from the wind blowing to whistleblowing! We’re so excited for the start of autumn and can’t wait to see what next week brings. 🍂✨
