Our Week in the Forest
This week was full of music, imagination, nature and hands-on exploration. We were thrilled to welcome families for our Stay and Play sessions, where children proudly shared their favourite activities around the forest with their loved ones.
Music flowed through our days as the children made their own instruments using recycled materials; experimenting with different materials to explore sound, rhythm and movement. Our forest stage has been busy with enthusiastic performances too! The children dressed up and sang songs like “The Wheels on the Bus” and “Old MacDonald had a Farm,” supporting one another as they took turns on stage.
Nature has inspired so much imaginative play this week too. Our little explorers were “cooking” special dishes for the animals using leaves, petals, soil and natural treasures - mixing, stirring and serving their creations with great purpose and storytelling. Others explored plants more closely, collecting interesting leaves and stems, comparing textures and talking about what they noticed in the forest around them.
We have also seen fantastic fine motor development in action. The children practised using tongs to carefully pick up natural materials, strengthening hand muscles and coordination. Their concentration and perseverance were clear as they transported leaves and forest finds with precision. Some children even created their own plant “fossils,” pressing natural objects into clay and observing the shapes and patterns they left behind - budding little scientists at work!
Across the week, our forest has been filled with music, imagination, investigation and discovery. It’s so wonderful to see the children connect deeply with their environment. It’s been a lovely week and we can’t wait for more adventures next week!
