Recipe - Damper Bread

recipe-damper-bread.jpg

This is an old Australian tradition as damper is the bush-bread of Australia. Drovers (cowboys) baked damper in camp ovens buried in the hot ashes of their camp fires in the Outback.

Having an Australian husband, he’d prefer to go the whole Australian hog and serve it dripping in golden syrup but being a bit healthier here we serve it with butter! ;-)

INGREDIENTS

4 cups self raising flour
1.5 cups milk
0.5 tsp salt

INSTRUCTIONS

Simply mix all the dough together, find a suitable stick and wrap the dough around the stick and then slowly turn the bread on the fire until cooked through.
