Twickenham - Robins, Black Birds,Magpies and Wagtails

Our Week in the Forest

Welcome to our forest this week, we have had a wonderful week learning all about birds. We hid pictures of different birds around the forest and with a tally sheet we hunted high and low recording each bird we found. With binoculars, telescopes and keen eyes we searched the trees and bushes for our real bird friends that share the forest space with us too. We found robins, black birds, magpies, wag tails and many more!

One day, we created a huge nest using branches and sticks gathered from the forest floor. After laying them down, we twisted them together to form a cosy enclosure, which we then painted in bright colours. We looked at pictures and read stories about birds we might spot in our forest and across the UK, as well as more colourful species like flamingos, parrots, and toucans from around the world.

In our music corner we tried to emulate the sounds of the birds and make bird song music - our Little Forest Folk-ers Bird Song Band was as esoteric as avantgarde jazz - and the children had so much fun creating their tunes.

Today we role-played the 'Three Little Pigs' and the children ran around being chased by the Wolf. We then made houses of straw, sticks and bricks, whilst over at the craft table we created piggy noses to wear.

Thanks for coming to the forest, see you next time!
