Our Week in the Forest
A forest of of fairytales β¨π§
Once upon a time there was a group of adventurous little forest folk-ers who spent a week deep in story land.
First they transformed into billy goats on an exciting adventure all the way to the wetlands of Winkworth Arboretum. By the lake they looked for the right size sticks to be their billy goat horns and attached them to their head bands. Then we raced to the first bridge, trip trapping over and making sure to look for trolls. The little billy goat crossed safely on the first bridge and the middle billy goat had no trouble on the second bridge. But when we got to the third bridge we saw a glimpse of a troll deep in the forest. The children came back full of stories of the baby rainbow troll. We might be ready to write a billy goats gruff sequel.
The next stop on the fairytale adventure was the three little pigs. We visited a straw house, a stick house and a brick house but unfortunately so did the big bad wolf. Our little ones loved switching roles first being clever little piggies and then big bad wolves too. We also took the chance to practice making pig faces, tracing round shapes like triangles and ovals to make the ears and snout. Then the children worked hard on their own houses, each beautifully crafted out of bark, leaves, sticks and chestnuts set into clay foundations. Luckily the big bad wolf was nowhere to be found.
Then something crazy happened, a giant beanstalk sprouted in our garden. Where did it come from? The magic beans might have had something to do with it. What fun we had climbing up the beanstalk to our castle on the clouds and planting our own beans into the numbered pots. We also loved discussing what makes things grow, making sure to add water, food and sunshine to our pots.
After that it was time to go back to the family tree and go on a magical journey with stickman. We had digging play, a rushing river, sensory snow and a big scary swan. The children brought in their ideas, exploring the trajectory with pipes and gutters and creating a winter wonderland for stickmen in our flour tuff tray. But the story doesnβt stop there. See you in the forest next week for even more adventures!
