We have been exploring more of Chiswick House and Gardens this week. The children have enjoyed long walks into the forest every morning and stopping to spend some time at the rolling hill and fish pond.

There has been a strong experimental element in the forest this week. We’ve had erupting volcanos, blasting space rockets, a wormery and forming crystallisations.

If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise. The Little Forest Folk-ers transformed themselves this week into a complete menagerie of different animals using masks, which produced some wonderful play and encouragement to try new things.

What a busy week in the forest. We have been enjoying a wide range of books, with The Rainbow Fish being a particular favourite. The fish sharing his scales led to some interesting conversations about helping our friends and being kind.

It has been lovely to welcome back all of our friends from half term this week and as well as doing regular climbing, exploring and foraging, we have been using some new materials on site which the children have really enjoyed getting their fingers stuck into…literally.

The children have been super busy this week showing a new kind of creativity through tool work. The children used the bow saw to cut their own log slices, choosing the log to cut and the length to cut it.

This week our holiday camp has seen the introduction of some new tools, some fantastic extended role-play and some palaeontologists at work! We also had all different kinds of weather including some very exciting thunder and lightning!

What an adventurous week we’ve had in the forest! Every day has seen groups going out to explore the wider forest and coming back with tales of amazing sites and wondrous discoveries. One group went in search of dinosaurs and they were in for a real treat.

This week we headed to Kew Gardens ready for a big walk to the log trail on the other side of the park. The children all put on their strong legs and marched ¾ of the way there before it was time for lunch.

Cable reels, logs, planks of wood, benches, ropes and natural materials may have been what the educators saw, but through the eyes of our Little Forest Folk-ers, it was all so much more exciting than that; all week in the forest the children have been using their imagination to turn our loose parts into amazing constructions.
