We’ve had a wonderfully festive few weeks at Little Forest Folk Chiswick, filled with music, creativity and lots of Christmas cheer. Here’s a little look at what the children have been enjoying as we head towards the holidays.

It has been a wonderful first week of December filled with entertainment and learning. We are so proud of the children for expressing their creativity and curiosity whilst embracing their environment.

We started the week by reading stories. Goldilocks and the Three Bears as well as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. This led us into our drama session which took place on an adventure walk. We also went on an actual bear hunt during an adventure walk where a teddy was hiding in the forest and we had to then go find them!

Despite the chilly air settling around us today, the children embraced the outdoors with enthusiasm and warmth, filling the forest with creativity, laughter and energetic play.

On Monday we began with puddles and raindrops, but that didn’t stop our fun one bit! The children embraced the rainy weather with big smiles, splashing through puddles and keeping warm under the tarps.

This week, we have been exploring Bonfire Night in all its sparkly glory. Our Little Forest Folk-ers learned about the history of the event, why bonfires are celebrated and most importantly how to stay safe while enjoying the fireworks.

he rainy days have arrived, but that didn’t stop our Little Forest Folk-ers from having a wonderful week full of creativity, exploration and adventure! The children embraced the wet weather with smiles and excitement, turning every puddle and raindrop into part of the fun.

Our little adventurers celebrated Diwali by making small candles out of clay. They shaped the clay and decorated them with colourful leaves that they picked from the forest floor.

Our Little Forest Folk-ers have been exploring a wonderful selection of books, not only about Halloween and autumn, but also celebrating Black History and learning about the achievements of those who brought positive change to the world.

What a truly wonderful week it’s been in the forest! The season of change is in full swing and the children have fully embraced the magic of autumn. The crunch of leaves beneath their boots, the golden colours glistening in the sunshine and the fresh, earthy scent in the air have made every moment outdoors feel exciting and full of discovery.

Art continued to bloom through leaf printing, where the children pressed their chosen leaves onto paper to reveal the intricate vein patterns and outlines. Their excitement at seeing the prints emerge was infectious and the prints themselves were stunning, each one a unique celebration of nature’s detail.

We began the week by building a shelter for the small-world dolls using oak leaves and twigs. The children showed great teamwork and communication as they decided where to place each leaf or stick, testing different ideas until the shelter was just right.

Although strong winds meant we couldn't visit the forest in the beginning of the week, that didn’t stop us from having an amazing day filled with play, laughter and new experiences!

Although the weather has not been the best this week, the children still had a wonderful time exploring and learning in the forest. Our new Little Forest Folk-ers are gradually settling in, while our existing children have been very welcoming, inviting their new friends to join in their play. It has been lovely to see friendships forming and growing.

What a fantastic start to September! As the weather begins to change, we’ve pulled on our waterproofs and wellie boots, ready to embrace the autumn mud. Bring it on, autumn – we’re prepared for the fun and mess you bring!

We kicked things off with the excitement of our new water play area, which quickly became a favourite spot for cooling down and making a splash.

Back at camp, the sand corner was a hive of activity. Castles, forts, and imaginative landscapes took shape as the children worked together, using sticks, leaves and natural treasures to decorate their designs.

What a wonderful week in the forest filled with excitement and adventure. This week has been about creativity, imagination and fun in our beautiful forest setting.

Our main focus this week was butterflies. We’ve been spotting them during our adventure walks and learning all about their life cycle, body parts and the wide variety of butterfly species.

One group worked together to build a fairy house, carefully balancing sticks and using grass to form walls and windows. They added thoughtful touches like a cosy bed for Grandma Fairy and pinecones for decoration, such imagination and teamwork!
