We have had a wonderful week at Little Forest Folk Chiswick filled with imaginative play, exploration, and plenty of opportunities to learn through nature.
Sand Play and Small World Exploration
Throughout the week, the children have enjoyed spending time in the sand area, creating habitats for wild animals. They worked together to design different environments, discussing where the animals might live and what they would need to survive. The children also explored our special matching rocks, carefully finding the correct pairs by matching the shapes hidden inside. This activity encouraged observation, concentration, and problem-solving skills.
Mud Kitchen Creations
Our mud kitchen has been as popular as ever! The children have been busy mixing, pouring, and creating an array of delicious mud cakes, soups and cupcakes. It has been lovely to see their imaginations flourish as they worked together, shared resources, and proudly served their creations to friends and adults.
Imaginative Outdoor Play
As the week progressed, the children's sand habitat evolved into a muddy watering hole for the animals. They created a realistic small world scene complete with a sandy beach, muddy water, and even a floating boat made from bark. Toy tigers, leopards and pandas explored their new surroundings as the children developed imaginative stories and extended their role play.
Cyanotype Experiment and Nature Exploration
This week, the children also took part in a cyanotype experiment. They listened carefully to instructions, followed each step thoughtfully and showed great curiosity throughout the activity. We also enjoyed a walk to the kitchen gardens, where we observed the different plants growing there. Our Little Forest Folk-ers were encouraged to look closely, compare what they saw and spot differences between the plants, helping to develop their observation skills and appreciation of the natural world.
Singing and Snack Time
We ended each forest session with our usual singing and snack time. The addition of the ukulele brought a lovely atmosphere, with the children enthusiastically joining in with familiar songs before enjoying a well-earned snack together.
It has been a fantastic week of exploration, creativity, and teamwork. We look forward to seeing what adventures next week will bring!
