Winkworth - Emotions

This week we have been focusing on our emotions. We used our zones of regulation to explore how we are feeling with 4 colours: red, blue, yellow and green.

Throughout the week we have had the ‘feeling’ connected to each colour written on coloured paper and hanging in our circle to remind us, we have used this to inspire conversations about how we are feeling in the morning and have then revisited the discussion in the afternoon to see if we felt a different colour.

The children explored the 4 different zones of colours at the beginning. There was the red zone which had a throwing activity to match the four colours of beanbags with the correct coloured hoops, the blue zone was a reading and quiet area, the yellow zone had some fancy dress and musical instruments available and the green zone became a craft zone where they could get creative making their own colour monster using different coloured tissue paper.

The mud kitchen saw squirt bottles filled with the four colours of water and labels with different feelings and everyone had a great time mixing all their feelings together to make new feelings.

We also focused on the sensory side of our feelings, for example how ‘angry’ may feel like prickly holly leaves or a rough pinecone. We also gathered lots of different natural materials for the children to make some natural faces on the tree stumps with all different emotions. We added some mirrors so they could make facial expressions and then mirror those using the natural materials.

It’s been a great week, we hope you all have a fab weekend!
