What a wonderful way to finish our last days of the Summer Term in the forest! It has been a week full of facepaint, football and a celebration of all the countries and cultures in the world! With the summer holidays just around the corner, many children shared their travel plans. Combined with the excitement of the football season, this week’s theme was all about imagining holidays around the world and celebrating our Forest World Cup. 🏆🌈

This week also we welcomed Elliot, our new Forest Educator in our fantastic family team!

Many of our adventurers decided to travel to their dream destinations by paper aeroplane! We followed the children’s interests and designed our very own airport. We used sticks to mark out the runway before launching our paper planes higher and higher, aiming to land them on target. Some children also decorated their aeroplanes with the flags of their favourite countries. ✈️🛬🧳🪄

Our camp was decorated with colourful bunting featuring flags from countries around the world. Both the younger and older children were fascinated by them. As the flags were displayed in alphabetical order, we practised our literacy skills by travelling from Australia all the way to Uruguay! Many of the older children confidently identified several European flags, but it was especially impressive to see them recognising countries from further afield, such as Peru. 🌍

Of course, our main learning intention this week focused on Physical Development. What better way to develop our gross motor skills than by holding our very own Forest World Cup? On most afternoons, we left our cool, shady camp at Bishop Tree and made our way to our own stadium at the back of the Palace, just behind the café. This still green, sheltered open space was the perfect place for our matches, where we even built our own goals using logs. After many goooooooooal celebrations, plenty of hydration breaks, dancing to Shakira and favourite songs, we enjoyed our afternoon snack together while sharing the highlights of our very own Forest World Cup. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇪🇸🇧🇷🇷🇺🇩🇰🇮🇹🇲🇫🇷🇺🇸🇲🇲🇽🇹🇷🇬🇷

We did beyond the hydration breaks and treated ourselves to the coolest sand ice cream breaks too! This has been an absolute busy spot with many children scooping and making the most delicious (and sometimes imaginary) flavours! 🍦🍨🍧

Not only did we master our football skills, but we also practised our hand grip and finger strength by taking part in a big nature clean-up. Using litter pickers, the children carefully collected rubbish such as paper and plastic before sorting it into the correct recycling or waste bins. The younger children challenged themselves by squeezing the litter pickers, while the older ones also put their observational skills into practice by spotting even the smallest pieces of litter. Once again, our eco-heroes and heroines saved the day!🦸🏽‍♀️🦸‍♀️🦸🏻

What a great end to this fun-filled Summer Term.
