Chiswick - Exploring Nature Around Us!

Our Week in the Forest

What a wonderful time we have been having outdoors exploring, discovering, and learning through nature! The children have shown so much curiosity, teamwork, and creativity during our recent forest school adventures.

Exploring Nature Around Us 🐢🪶
During our walks across the bridge, the children excitedly searched for tortoises and herons. We used our observation skills to look carefully around the water and nearby habitats, talking about where animals like to hide and live.

On our adventure walks, we became nature detectives by identifying different trees and flowers. The children explored leaves, bark textures, and shapes to help recognise the plants around us. We discussed colours, patterns, and how every tree is unique.

Building a Bug Hotel 🐞🏡
The children worked together to create a cosy bug hotel! First, they designed their ideas on paper, thinking carefully about what insects might need in their homes. Then we gathered natural materials such as sticks, leaves, bark, moss and pinecones to build welcoming spaces for bugs and mini beasts.

We also explored under logs and in hidden secret places that had not been disturbed for a long time. The children were fascinated to discover different bugs and insects living underneath and enjoyed carefully observing them before returning everything gently back to its place.

Ice Play Fun ❄️
To help cool down during the warmer weather, the children enjoyed sensory ice play. They cracked and chipped away at the ice to discover hidden objects trapped inside. This activity encouraged problem-solving, patience, and lots of excitement as the treasures were revealed!

Chalk Experimenting 🎨
The children became little scientists while experimenting with chalk and wooden blocks. They tested different angles and methods to crack the chalk into powder, learning through trial and error to find the best solutions. Afterwards, we mixed the chalk powder with water to create our very own chalk paint for creative outdoor art.

Stick Man Creations 🍃
Inspired by nature and storytelling, the children made their own Stick Men using sticks, leaves, and other natural materials. They practised tying knots while attaching leaves and sticks as arms and legs, helping to develop fine motor skills and perseverance.

We are so proud of the children’s enthusiasm, imagination, and care for the natural world. Thank you for continuing to support their outdoor learning adventures.
