Winkworth - Rain & Shine!

Our Week in the Forest

The good old English weather definitely came to test us in the forest with storms and warm sun all packed into one busy week. Our Little Forest Folk-ers have embraced the turbulent weather and created amazing activities that suit the conditions.

We have embarked on many adventure walks in the sun, collecting materials and rocks we found on the way and enjoying all the new insects that have come out to play. We have watched the lake from the boat house in the sunshine and watched how the water splashes onto the lake during the rain. We have also splashed in the puddles and enjoyed the mud kitchen by making magical potions with different coloured water, watching all the colours mix to make different combinations.

We were transported back in time this week to celebrate Dinosaur Day by getting messy in chia seed slime and learning about what chia seeds do for our bodies. This helped us explore different textures and engage our fine motor skills. We also made dinosaur tails that when we tied them around our waists transformed us into stomping dinosaurs. Later in the week we traveled around the world and landed in Italy. We celebrated Italian Day by awakening the artists in us and cooking up some arts and crafts pizzas. They looked fantastic with their tissue paper peppers and pepperonis made out of egg cartons (but it might be difficult to chew the cardboard). We also used our fine motor skills to thread pasta pieces to make into necklaces, using different shapes and sizes to test our skills.

We finished off the week with an amazing ice activity set up by Becky which taught us how salt and ice react with each other. The salt helped the ice stick together so we could make ice towers. As well as this, we coloured the ice and watched how the colour melted away with the water.

Thank you for a lovely week in the forest and we look forward to a fun-filled week next week!
