Chiswick - Music in the Rain!

We have had a fantastic week in the forest, embracing all kinds of weather and making the most of our outdoor environment. The children have been busy exploring, creating, imagining and developing new skills through a range of exciting experiences.

Music in the Rain

The rainy weather did not stop our musical adventures! We gathered in our tent for special music sessions where the children explored a variety of instruments and percussion. Together, we learned about *piano* (quiet sounds) and *forte* (loud sounds), as well as rhythm and beat. The children enjoyed listening carefully, keeping time with instruments and expressing themselves through music.

Building a Castle for Elsa and Anna

Inspired by their favourite characters, the children worked together to build a shelter and castle for Elsa and Anna during the rain. Using logs, sticks and natural materials, they demonstrated fantastic imagination, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Moving and arranging the materials helped to strengthen their muscles while encouraging cooperation and perseverance.

Clay Letter Creations

Our literacy activities included making letters from clay. The children carefully shaped and formed letters before practising writing their names. This hands-on activity supported letter recognition, fine motor development and early writing skills while encouraging creativity and concentration.

Getting Ready for Big School

The children enjoyed taking part in teacher role play as they prepared for the exciting transition to school. Through imaginative play, they explored classroom routines, took turns being the teacher and practised listening, speaking and social skills. This helped build confidence and familiarity with what school life may be like.

Story Time

We shared a variety of books throughout the week, focusing on:

•  Emotions and feelings
•  Starting and preparing for big school
•  Minibeasts and insects that live beneath the soil

These stories encouraged thoughtful discussions, curiosity and opportunities to develop language and understanding of the world around us.

Weather Watchers

The children became weather detectives as they observed the sky, studied cloud formations and discussed changing weather conditions. They made predictions about whether it might rain or if thunderstorms were approaching, helping them develop observation skills and an understanding of the natural world.

Adventure Walks to the Bridge

Our adventure walks took us to the bridge where the children enjoyed observing ducks and exploring the variety of trees around us. We talked about different tree shapes, leaves and habitats while appreciating the beauty of nature. The walks provided opportunities for physical exercise, curiosity and meaningful conversations about the environment.
