Our Week in the Forest
What a wonderfully wild week it has been in the forest! With so many seasonal changes in just a few days, we experienced a little bit of everything - from sunshine to chilly winds - but the children embraced it all and enjoyed every moment of their time outdoors!
This week, our main focus has been on shapes. The children explored different shapes within their environment, spotting circles, triangles and patterns in nature. We also took our learning further by using our whittling skills, carefully shaping small round logs into more defined forms such as cubes. This hands-on activity gave the children the opportunity to explore 3D shapes while building confidence, coordination and focus.
With spring slowly making its way in, we’ve also been enjoying exploring the spring flowers around us. Our spring scavenger hunts have been a big hit, with children excitedly searching for signs of new life. We have also been preparing our flower beds, getting ready to plant beautiful flowers to support our pollinator friends. The children have shown great care and interest in how we can look after nature.
Music and movement have been another highlight of the week. The children have been creating their own songs using a variety of instruments and have especially loved exploring our new boom sticks, experimenting with different sounds and rhythms. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they move, listen and play together.
Our creation station has also been busy, with children using recycled materials to make colourful spring pictures and flowers. These activities have encouraged creativity while also helping us think about reusing materials in meaningful ways.
To finish off the week, we’ve been getting ready for our Easter egg hunt party by making our own Easter egg decorations. The excitement has been building and we can’t wait for the celebrations ahead!
It’s been a week full of creativity, exploration and joy, we’re looking forward to more spring adventures together!
