Chiswick - Blossoming Flowers, Sprouting Trees and Different Birds

Our Week in the Forest

We were lucky to have such a sunny and bright week together and the children enjoyed lots of wonderful activities filled with creativity, exploration and fun with friends.

At the beginning of the week, we had a lovely day in the forest while the sun was shining. Our Little Forest Folk-ers started the morning by making beautiful bracelets and necklaces using pasta and colourful beads. They carefully used plastic needles to thread the string through the beads and pasta, creating their own jewellery while practising their fine motor skills and expressing their creativity. Later, we went on a forest adventure to explore the changing season. The children noticed blossoming flowers, sprouting trees and different birds flying around the forest. We talked about how birds live in nests and then went on a little search around the forest to see if we could find some. It was wonderful to see the children learning more about the nature around them.

During the week we also spent time talking about emotions and how we feel. We discussed what makes us happy and what might make us feel sad. Many of the children shared thoughtful ideas, such as feeling happy when mummy or daddy picks them up, or when they get to play with their friends. We also talked about how it can feel sad when friends don’t want to play. The children then played a flip memory game and some of them were excellent at remembering where the cards were - well done everyone! We also had lots of fun on the big swing at camp, where it felt like we could almost touch the sky.

Later in the week we had a stay-in-the-building day, but we still made the most of the sunshine and had lots of fun together. In the morning, the children worked together to paint a cardboard boat and turn it into a pirate ship. Once it was finished, we took it outside into the garden so the pirate adventures could continue. Outside, the mud kitchen was very busy, with the children making lots of imaginative “ice cream” and “pasta.” There were also footballs to kick around, train tracks to build and colouring activities to enjoy.

We played group games such as Piggy in the Middle and What’s the Time, Mr Wolf? Some of the children also went inside for a little while to play hairdressers before coming back outside. We finished the day with a fun dance party before snack time.

It has been a lovely week full of laughter, imagination and learning. The children explored nature, shared their feelings and enjoyed lots of creative play with their friends. We look forward to many more adventures together next week!
