Twickenham - Plum and Cherry Blossom and Crocus Galore

Our Week in the Forest

What a glorious spring week we have just enjoyed in the forest. The plum and cherry trees are blossoming bravely in the fluctuating temperature and weather. The purple, white and yellow croci are carpeting our fire pit area, the jonquils are bobbing their yellow heads throughout camp and the snowdrops add depth and colour around our forest too. Half term has come to an end and our holiday camper friends have returned to school and our forest school friends have returned from their holiday too. We have been so excited to see our friends again!

This week as part of our eco school studies we have been learning about keeping our oceans clean and how to protect our sea creatures. We have learnt about the dangers of nets and plastic pollution and the importance of recycling and putting things in the bin.

Our home-made play dough and a variety of natural resources have sparked our imaginations as we have created birds with beaks, pretty pendants, necklaces, pictures and fancy fossils.

The tuff tray has been a hive of activity with soft play sand, small world animals, natural resources and cups and bowls used to shape sandcastles.

Our reading area full of wonderful books and exciting tales has also become the favourite spot for young bards, as children have rolled picture dice and created stories of their own and enjoyed telling their friends exciting tales of dogs, kings, witches and frogs, ice creams, bicycles, doughnuts and puppy dogs. Hand in hand with our love of literature our budding artists have been making bookmarks at the craft table.

We had one particularly beautiful, sunny, warm, glorious day this week and the children had a great time painting our logs which mark our boundaries, with rainbow coloured paints. Another group of children were busy building and creating inclines to be used as car ramps. The short lengths of rain gutters were used to create water channels within the mud kitchen area for water to slide from high ground to low ground as we tested small objects in the channel to see which ones could be moved by the flowing water.

Thanks for coming to the forest, see you again next time!
