Winkworth - Celebrating Chinese New Year and the Winter Olympics!

Our Week in the Forest

Inspired by both Chinese New Year and the Winter Olympics, we set up an enormous obstacle race around the garden.

The children enjoyed balancing on stones and logs, jumping into tyres, crawling under the A-frame pallets and finishing off by throwing bean bags and balls through the gaps in some pallets to score big points! 🎽🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️☄️💯

Our Little Forest Folk-ers did very much enjoy making medals for themselves, drawing round circles, cutting them out and sticking wool on before choosing to write their name, a number or any other decorations before proudly showing it off for all to see! 🏅🥇🥉🥈🎖

In the afternoon, there was yet more crafting! Some of the children made self beating drums out of paper plates, a stick, wool and beads. Others made little New Years cards, carefully writing messages, drawing pictures and making kisses on their red cards before putting them in a special Chinese paper bag with a sticker on to celebrate the new year. 🥁🧧🥠🐴🎉

We continued our Chinese New Year celebrations! We made ang pows (Chinese New Year red packets) with golden stones inside to give to someone special. We learnt about Chinese New Year food, making incredible noodle meals in the mud kitchen and play dough moon cakes and jiaozi (dumplings).

We finished our week off with the most glorious walk in search of signs of early spring. With our identifying sheets, cameras and binoculars at the ready we all excitably set off the Arboretum. We are so lucky where our site is that we actually managed to see Snowdrops growing in our garden!

On the walk, our little explorers excitedly managed to find Daffodils, Catkins, Primroses, Snowdrops, Bluebells beginning to grow and much, much more. We scooped up some fallen Daffodils and then our Little Forest Folk-ers used them to draw their own.

A wonderful week, we hope you have a great weekend!
