Our Week in the Forest
We’ve had a wonderfully busy and adventurous week here at the nursery!
The children enjoyed an exciting nature walk to the pond, where we went to visit the ducks and geese. During our walk, we talked about how to tell the difference between male and female ducks, observing lots of interesting wildlife. The children watched as a swan chased away some Canadian geese and we were delighted to spot some adorable goslings waddling closely behind their parents.
Back at nursery, we explored our creative side with a Hapa Zome activity 🌸🍃, using flowers and leaves we had collected from the ground. The children used tools to gently hammer the plants onto fabric and paper, discovering the beautiful colours and patterns hidden inside nature.
For physical play, we set up a log ladder, which the children absolutely loved climbing up and down 🪵.. This activity helped develop their balance, coordination and gross motor skills, while also strengthening their muscles 💪.
We also enjoyed a fun science and discovery activity, where we created our own balancing scales using milk bottles and objects we had found. The children experimented with different items to see which were heavier or lighter, learning about balance through play.
With spring now arriving, we’ve been spending time noticing the seasonal changes around us 🌼. The children have been fascinated by the spring flowers beginning to bloom and were excited to spot the first bumblebees and honeybees of the season 🐝.
As Mother’s Day approaches, the children have also been talking about the special people in their lives - we hope all the wonderful mums, grandmothers and carers have a very happy Mother’s Day this weekend! 💐
Overall it has been a week full of exploration, creativity and discovery, we are so proud of the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm! ✨
