Our Week in the Forest
Spring Adventures 🌿
This week our little explorers have been busy discovering, creating and learning through play, all inspired by the beauty of spring!
We began with a joyful music session, where children explored a variety of instruments. From shaking and tapping to listening and moving they expressed themselves freely while developing rhythm, coordination and confidence.
Out in the forest some of the children took part in an engaging letter activity, writing and placing letters around the forest where they were working collaboratively. This helped them connect early literacy with the natural world, encouraging them to investigate and get used to seeing these signs for their next steps into big school.
Creativity continued as the children drew numbers on blocks which were then hung around the mud kitchen. This added a wonderful mathematical element to their play, encouraging number recognition in a meaningful and engaging way.
Our adventure walk was full of excitement! The children observed signs of spring - spotting flowers, noticing changes in the environment and even challenging themselves with a little climbing. These moments help build curiosity, confidence and physical strength.
In our creative area, we explored collage painting using recycled materials on different surfaces. The children loved experimenting with textures and materials, showing fantastic imagination and care for the environment.
Fine motor skills were in focus during our colour sorting activity, where children used pincers to sort coloured chickpeas. This activity supported hand strength, coordination and early problem-solving skills.
Of course there was plenty of time for imaginative play in the mud kitchen, where children created their own recipes, stories and roles. Adults were telling stories and children kept asking for more! This type of play is so valuable for developing communication, social skills and creativity.
It has been a week full of discovery, exploration and joy. We look forward to many more springtime adventures together!
