Our Week in the Forest
🌿 🗺️ A Week of Magic, Adventure & Wonder 🦄 🧚
Pirates, unicorns & fairies. Our little explorers journeyed far and wide this week, guided by imagination, curiosity, and the spirit of adventure.
🏴☠️Setting sail - the great treasure hunt!
Our week began with a truly magical adventure as our camp was transformed into a vast, secret ocean and our very own pirate ship, built from pallets with a proud pirate flag waving in the breeze, stood ready to take us on the most intrepid of voyages! ⚓🌊 We even had fishing rods with magnets and caught magnetic colourful fish from our pirate ship! 🎣🐠
Armed with a map of our camp and guided by the compass of our hearts, our little pirates set off on a long-awaited treasure hunt. The first challenge came when we finally discovered the chest, only to find the gems had vanished into the forest! But wait... a folded piece of map lay inside. We unrolled it, rubbed our eyes and realised the crosses marked on our very own camp were our only hope of finding those colourful gems. 🗺️💎
What followed was a wonderful adventure of climbing, digging, finding supportive sticks, and drawing on every last drop of inner motivation. Spatial awareness, perseverance, and teamwork shone through beautifully and the excitement was absolutely wonderful to witness. The journey felt almost endless (some gems are still out there!), which only added to the magic. 🌿🔍
Inspired by the pirate spirit, children then created their own maps using pieces of recycled fabric. The results were wonderfully creative and full of personality. And to truly become pirates, face painting transformed every single one of our explorers! 🎨🏴☠️
🦄Welcome to Unicorn Island!
As our adventures continued, we landed on a Unicorn Island, and just like that, our pirate ship was magically transformed into a unicorn climbing frame! Faces painted white with beautiful touches of colour, the camp became a place of pure wonder. 🌈✨
Children created stunning symmetrical butterflies using pipettes to colour one side, then folding the paper to discover the magical effect of colour mixing. Exceptional pieces of art decorated our camp, each one unique and full of joy. 🦋🎨
We read together from the wonderful "Unicorn Day" book, which sparked imaginative role play as children donned butterfly wings and brought the story to life. The camp was filled with laughter, sparkle and the most beautiful creative energy. 💜🌟
🧚Into the Fairyland!
With a swish and a sprinkle of dust, our unicorn flew us onward to the most enchanting place of all… Fairyland! ✨🌸
Our little explorers painted and decorated fairy homes (our beautiful logs!), using colour and imagination to create the most magical dwellings. Then came the highlight: wielding their super-powered hammers to crush chalk and create glittering, colourful fairy dust! 🔨💫
Using their precious dust, little fairies followed careful potion instructions - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 drops of fairy water, a magical swirl and the mix transformed into a truly magical potion! There was precise counting, careful observation and wonderful following of instructions! 🧪🌿
Sparkly stones inspired imaginative storytelling at our book corner, where picture stones were used to initiate and build wonderful tales together. And to prepare for the fairy dance ball everyone crafted their very own fairy crowns using only natural resources found around camp. 👑🌿
🎸Songs, music & circle time
No week at Forest Nursery would be complete without our beloved circle time songs - and this week, the magic was turned up to eleven with a real guitar! 🎶 The forest rang with melody as we sang, played and moved together, with the gentle sound of strings weaving through the trees. Our circle time was a joyful anchor to each day, bringing us together with music, laughter and shared rhythm. 🌿🎵
🌟All week long...
Throughout every day of this magical week our camp was alive with face painting and tattoos, crafts big and small, imaginative role play in the mud kitchen and countless stories told and listened to together. Our little explorers cooked, mixed, read, built, painted and created all while travelling on the wings of their wonderful imagination. Every child became the hero of their own story, and the forest was all the richer for it.🎭🌿🎨
