Putney Heath - Families and Cooking Extravaganza!

What a deliciously fun week it’s been for our little forest folk-ers - or should we say, little chefs! This week was all about cooking, teamwork and exploration. The children threw themselves into every activity with excitement, curiosity and creativity.

We began the week by thinking about something close to all our hearts - our families. Each child created beautiful handprint artwork to celebrate the people they love most. As they stamped their painted hands onto paper, they shared five things they love about their families. “Cuddles” and “spending time together” were popular answers and it was lovely to hear such thoughtful reflections. These moments of connection set a wonderful tone for the rest of the week.

Next came our cooking extravaganza! On Tuesday, the children gathered around the table to make tasty banana-oat biscuits. They carefully measured out bananas, oats, eggs and cinnamon before taking turns to pour, mix and stir. The sense of teamwork was fantastic and the sweet smell of baking filled the air.

Later in the week, the children took their culinary adventures to the next level - by building their very own fire! With support from the forest educators, they gathered kindling, pulled apart cotton wool and arranged fire starters with care. Before long, they had created a roaring fire, perfect for a spot of outdoor cooking. Once everything was ready, they mixed up pancake batter and cooked their pancakes over the open flames. The golden treats were delicious, especially with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. The pride on the children’s faces said it all!

It has been a week filled with wonderful memories - from laughter shared around the fire to the joy of tasting something they helped to make. The little learners have shown so much independence, teamwork and care for one another.

Next week (13th–17th October) we’ll be hosting our Stay and Play sessions in the forest. There are still plenty of spaces available, so please message Meredith to book a day to join us. We’d love to welcome you to experience a morning of forest fun alongside your child.
