It’s been another joyful week here in our little woodland! With sunshine through the trees and plenty of splashing and laughter, our little learners explored big ideas - self-care, growing up, and caring for both themselves and the forest around them.
We began the week with a nurturing activity that truly captured the hearts of our Little Forest Folk-ers: baby doll care! Many of the children who have younger siblings at home loved taking the lead - feeding, changing nappies and gently carrying the babies in slings. This sparked lovely conversations about what they were like as babies, how they've grown and even how adults were once kiddos too!
As the week continued, the children soaked up the sunshine and used natural materials to create beautiful and expressive forest art. This hands-on activity helped reinforce the idea that just as we care for ourselves, we must also care for the natural world around us.
Wednesday brought a wonderfully sensory activity - making our own rosemary hair oil! The children trimmed fresh rosemary from the clubhouse garden, gave it a good wash and then got to work building a roaring campfire. With teamwork, curiosity and a little dragon-like determination - they split wood, fluffed up cotton wool and lit the fire safely under the watchful eye of our forest educators. They then melted coconut oil and mixed in the rosemary to steep - ready to be sent home in a couple of weeks!
We ended the week with pure summer fun - an epic slip n slide! With water splashing everywhere, squeals of delight filled the air. The children experimented with pouring, scooping and eventually added bubbles, transforming it all into a giggly, sudsy adventure.
It’s been a lovely week in the forest, filled with fun! Have a glorious weekend!
