Our Week in the Forest

A Week of Wonder: Scientists, Kindness & Forest Magic
Each day in our forest brought a new theme, a new adventure and a new spark of curiosity. From fizzing potions to poppy wreaths, from music walls to kindness theatres, our little explorers moved through the week with wonder in their eyes and joy in their steps.

 Crazy Scientists Stirring Up Trouble
We kicked off the week deep in the Forest Laboratory, where mad scientists in tiny wellies mixed, poured, stirred… and screeched with delight! The moment vinegar met soda, a fizzy eruption burst from the jars like a mini lava explosion, bubbling and dancing its way to the top. Children leaned in close, eyes wide, cheeks glowing - watching science come alive before them.

Our little adventurers then became nature scientists, discovering how a pinecone reacts to warm and cold water, exploring floating and sinking with oranges - noticing that the one with its peel (like a little life jacket!) floated, while the peeled one sank.  Mixing water and testing natural materials sparked so many smiles and it was wonderful to see how everyone gathered around, working together, talking and wondering aloud.

 Poppies, Paint & Playful Challenges
The next day began with a moment of reflection and creativity as children crafted beautiful poppy wreaths to mark Remembrance and Kindness Day.  We talked about what kindness means and how even small caring actions can make a big difference.

Then it was time to get moving! The camp filled with giggles, melodies and monkey sounds as we set up a challenging obstacle course. Little adventurers jumped over tyres, balanced on logs, crossed bridges, wobbled on planks, climbed frames and crawled through hoops - determination and teamwork leading the way!

Children also explored painting on cling film, watching colours and shapes mirror and mix, a moment of discovery and expression.

Further across the camp, balls rolled through a maze of pipes, beanbags flew through the air and hanging treasures chimed like forest bells when struck, creating spontaneous music in the trees!

The mud kitchen was once again a hub of creativity and cooperation, while games of hide-and-seek filled the woods with laughter, especially when the “monkey teacher” climbed a tree!

Morning songs turned into a lively version of Bluey’s theme, filling the forest with melody, movement and joy.

A day filled with laughter, teamwork and adventure, where children challenged themselves, tried new things, and celebrated the joy of playing and communicating together.

 Music, Mystery & Mother Nature
Midweek found us in a creative rhythm, making music together at our Forest Music Wall!  The children pretended to be a band (educators included!) and explored different sounds, beats and rhythms. A mystery box revealed lost puzzle pieces, which our little explorers had to hunt for and solve together, showing persistence and teamwork. Nearby, a train maze had little conductors guiding their trains through twists, turns and crossings to reach their garages safely.

We also had mini-ball games - from a small basketball challenge to a golf-style game - perfect for practising coordination and motor skills. The afternoon ended with a gentle adventure walk, where children hugged a tree and took a quiet moment to appreciate our Mother Nature.

 World Kindness Day
Thursday was all about kindness, our favourite Forest Rule!   We talked about the kind things we can do each day - sharing, helping and using gentle hands and words. There was a special theatre corner where our Little Forest Folk-ers used emotion toys to act out stories and model kind actions. Fine motor activities encouraged careful, patient work - threading, magnetic fishing, zipping, buttoning and even stick mazes to follow! At our letter corner, our little explorers matched the initial sound of animals to the right letter, practising phonics playfully. Meanwhile, the mud kitchen brewed with creativity again, full of pretend potions, teamwork and imaginative conversations.

 Caring Hands & Grateful Hearts
We ended the week with a beautiful theme - caring for others.  Our little doctors and nurses stepped into a Forest Hospital, providing “first aid” to their soft toy patients. They took temperatures, wrapped bandages and checked heartbeats - showing incredible empathy and care.  Through role play, we reflected on how grateful we are for our healthcare workers and how their kindness and learning help keep our communities healthy. It was heartwarming to see kindness spread everywhere - in actions, words and smiles.

 Reflections
This week was a wonderful journey through science, creativity, music and kindness, with curiosity leading the way!  From fizzing volcanoes to poppy wreaths, music walls to obstacle courses, our children explored, problem-solved, shared and laughed together.

Each day brought new discoveries and challenges, strengthening friendships and filling the forest with joy.

We can’t wait to see what adventures next week will bring!
