Baby chicks - incubator has arrived :-)

Exciting news is that our incubator and eggs have been delivered today.

The incubator with our Eggs 2-3 days away from hatching :-)

The incubator with our Eggs 2-3 days away from hatching :-)

Over the next 2 weeks we shall be learning all about the miracle of life when we take great care of our eggs and watch our little chicks slowly start to emerge from their eggs and hatch out into the world.

We look forward this week to teaching children about life cycles when we hatch our baby chicks. We will keep you posted with developments!

Let's hope we progress from step 1 to step 3 smoothly! :-)

Experience the wonder from the moment we deliver. You will see the eggs wobble and often hear cheeping from within the egg, just before hatching commences. At this point, why don't you cluck to the chick? (often a great source of amusement). But it does work. Listen in amazement as the chick cheeps back!

The chicks will start to peck their way out of their shells, they don't need any help although some clucking will make them feel at home. Once they are out of their shell they'll take a while to recover from all their hard work and will need to dry off in the incubator.

Once the chicks have dried off and fluffed up they'll look really cute, when 2 or 3 have hatched out they can then be moved over together into the brooding box to eat and drink, but remember chicks like company so move them into the brooding box a few at a time.

Only 2-3 days from hatching! :-)
