Our Week in the Forest
What a week it has been in the forest! From blustery winds to moments of sunshine, our Little Forest Folk-ers showed their adaptability, creativity, and endless imagination. Here are some of our favourite highlights from the week.
The children loved spending time out on the meadow. The older ones had great fun flying the kite and playing frisbee, while the younger explorers collected flowers and enjoyed the open space at their own pace. These adventures gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs, build friendships, and enjoy the fresh air. When the weather pushed us inside creativity thrived. Using magnet tiles and toy cars the children built a huge super speedway, sparking imaginative play and problem-solving. In the toy kitchen pots and pans became instruments for a lively music session where the children created rhythms and beats together.
A real highlight was rebuilding a cozy den for our soft toy birds and chicks. After the winds knocked it down the children worked as a team to repair it, showing kindness and responsibility in their play. It was heart-warming to see how much care they put into their forest friends. Later that day the children created “emotion plates.” They painted four different feelings, then practiced making expressions to match each one. This playful approach helped the children build awareness of their emotions and the emotions of others. Later in the week, they also decorated colour monsters, choosing colours to reflect their moods and celebrating how unique we all are.
Dinosaurs stomped through camp as the children role-played with “massive feet,” while the mud kitchen was busy with mud pies, soups, and make-believe meals. Towers were built and rebuilt with blocks, inspiring teamwork and perseverance. In quieter moments, the children enjoyed puzzles, story time and imaginative role play as doctors and carers, looking after toy babies with gentle care.
Near the end of the week, our Little Forest Folk-ers spent their day identifying their feelings through the story of The Colour Monster. This is one of the children’s favourite stories at the moment and definitely puts them in the yellow or green zone! Using a variety of colourful pens, the children identified their feelings.
We wrapped up with plenty of drawing, singing, and storytelling - a wonderful way to round off a week full of exploration, fun and learning. Despite the windy weather, the children’s joy and imagination filled the forest with warmth and laughter.
