This week has been bursting with imagination, exploration and storytelling as we kicked off our new theme - This week has been bursting with imagination, exploration and storytelling as we kicked off our new theme - Books and Stories! From dinosaur tales to berry-filled snacks, our Little Forest Folkers have truly brought stories to life in the most magical ways. Before diving into this week's activities we’d like to thank everyone who joined us for our special clubhouse picnic! As our older children prepare to head off to primary school, this gathering was a lovely way to celebrate their journey in the forest.
We began the week with a special request from the children - stories about dinosaurs and dragons! These fantastical creatures inspired incredible storytelling sessions, as the little ones created their own adventures filled with fiery roars and thunderous stomps. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to explore the difference between real and pretend and our little learners have shown brilliant thinking and imagination.
As the week continued, camp transformed into scenes from some of our favorite stories. The children acted out 'We’re Going on a Bear Hunt' and 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' using props, costumes and LOTS of enthusiasm! From sticky porridge bowls to tiptoeing through the “swishy swashy” grass, the forest felt truly enchanted. Who knew muesli could make the best filling for tuff trays?
One of the week’s biggest highlights was blackberry picking! Each day, the children carefully collected blackberries for their afternoon snack - washing and munching them with huge smiles. On one special day, the children mixed blackberries with strawberries, blueberries, sugar and lemon to make their own jam, which they spread onto homemade flatbread cooked over the fire. Let’s just say the plates were licked clean - but the faces told the real (sticky) story!
Next week, we’d love to invite all of our Little Forest Folk-ers to bring in a special book from home to share with their friends for the day. Whether it’s a well-loved bedtime story, a picture book full of wonder, or something totally silly - we can’t wait to explore the stories that mean the most to them. and Stories!
