Our Week in the Forest
What a joyful and action-packed week we’ve had in the forest! From food celebrations to cultural learning and energetic games, the children have been busy celebrating all week long.
We kicked off the week with Pancake Day and what a fantastic start it was! Our Little Forest Folk-ers had the opportunity to use the bow saw to chop their very own “wooden pancakes,” practising tool skills safely and confidently. Alongside this, we enjoyed some real cooking too, making rainbow banana pancakes together. The children learned how to prepare the batter and each chose which colour pancakes they wanted to make, turning cooking into a fun, creative and sensory experience.
Our celebrations continued as we explored Chinese New Year. The children learned the story of the Jade Emperor’s Race and became fascinated by the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. To deepen our understanding, we visited the library for a Chinese New Year–themed event, which was a wonderful opportunity to engage with stories, books and cultural celebrations beyond the forest.
Inspired by the story of the race, we brought it to life through play. Our little adventurers took part in their own races, pretending to be the different animals competing in the Jade Emperor’s Race. These games encouraged teamwork, movement and plenty of laughter as everyone joined in.
Throughout the week, we also continued to explore the forest, making the most of outdoor play and group games. One of our absolute favourites has been Duck, Duck, Goose, which the children have loved playing again and again. These games supported listening skills, turn-taking and social interaction, all while keeping us active and warm.
It’s been a week filled with celebration, learning, movement and creativity. The children have shown so much enthusiasm and curiosity - it’s been wonderful to see them engaging so fully with each activity. We’re looking forward to many more adventures and discoveries in the forest next week!
