Our Week in the Forest
This week we have enjoyed celebrating the festival of Diwali! We learnt about the story and its characters: Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Ravana. Sita was taken by the evil ten headed monster (Ravana) so Lord Rama worked together with Lakshmana (his brother) to rescue his wife. In their celebrations, they lit candles and set fireworks to celebrate that good won against evil and light wins against darkness. We had one of our children’s grandparents come in to explain the story and run a couple of activities. The children enjoyed making a Rangoli using Rangoli powder and glue. You can see our final product in the collage below! Afterwards, they kindly brought in Diyas for the children to paint and decorate. Everyone used vibrant colours to highlight the strength in good and light, as well as gems and stickers to shine their victory. Throughout the week we have been adding light in our set ups, using colourful materials to play and dance with. We have all learnt a lot and are very grateful for everyone involved helping to celebrate Diwali, especially our visitor!
Our second main highlight of the week has been our building project! We’ve been working on a den building project over the past few weeks whilst learning new skills with rope, tarps, sticks and logs. This week we levelled-up our challenge to build the Three Little Pigs’ house! We ventured out to the Common and found the start of a den, we collected sticks, logs and ferns to add warmth and support to the current structure. After we finished our Pigs’ house, the Wolf visited! They huffed and puffed but did not blow our house down! We built such a strong structure that the winds of the Wolf fell short. We continued to tell the story through our den and play, adding new layers and ideas too.
Another wonderful week, we hope everyone has a great weekend!
