Our Week in the Forest
A week of different weather!
This week, we have focussed on our counting and shapes! We started off by visiting the frog pond at our indoor site on a high wind day. We ventured over to Morley Park to see if the frogspawn had hatched…. as you can see from the photos, yes they have! We learnt about the life cycle of a frog and how many stages there are. We use glass jars to scoop the tadpoles up so we can identify features of their body and count how many there were. It became quite tricky as they wouldn’t stop swimming! We took it in turns to have a few tadpoles in each jar then let them back into the pond to help look after them and not scare them. It’s so exciting to see each stage of the frog's life up-close.
Our counting and shapes focus continued onto another day where one of our educators, Rebecca, created a treasure hunt for us all. First, we set the tone in base camp by setting our main sail up on the pirate ship! We pulled and pulled until it caught wind! Hooking us in, we were then on a mission to find the treasure. Rebecca wrote up clues and open ended questions to help guide us around the site whilst visiting lots of different areas. Our first instruction, ‘how many steps to the imagination tree? There you will need to look up!’ We walked over the meadow and counted 67 steps to the imagination tree to find Stitch stuck on a branch! We used long sticks and our strength to help rescue Stitch and from there, we counted up to the dome and remembered how many sides a triangle has… 3! There we had to select the correct bag written 1, 2 or 3! (We got it!) From there we ventured over to the yellow gate and then to the swamp gate. We were the best pirates we could be, collecting our toy treasure and counting as a team.
Another wonderful week in the forest!
