Our week in the forest!
Since the clocks went back by one hour, our routine at Little Forest Folk Twickenham has changed too. With the sun setting in the late afternoon we can no longer stay outside all day, however that means we can head into our cosy indoor space for the last two hours of the day to enjoy dinner at our small tables and play with our indoor toys.
This week started with a bang as we have been learning about fireworks and painting beautiful pictures in various ways, such as splattering paint onto a large canvas, as well as using carefully snipped loo roll tubes dipped into paint as stamps to create the explosive image of the firework.
We have thoroughly enjoyed making music, both making our own rhythm and inventing our own songs as well as singing and dancing to our favourite tunes.
At the beginning of the week we were exploring numbers with a giant homemade die in the forest. As we rolled the die, we enjoyed learning our numbers and then created movements for each number such as leaping like a frog three times, or twisting like a tornado 5 times, flapping like a bird 2 times and so on…
We have spent 2 weeks working on building a wicker house from Linden tree suckers/off shoot branches. We planted the uprights in the ground and then wove the sucker horizontally through the uprights creating a strong wicker frame work. We now have a lovely tall den that the children and educators can fit into. As it was international jelly fish day on Monday, we learnt all about jelly fish and created lots of lovely jelly fish from paper plates and tissue paper. We have now decorated the interior of our wicker house with them and it looks lovely! Have you read “The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish” by Chloe Savage?
At the end of the week we all worked hard on our knot tying and using ropes and crates we made a circular fortress-like-space tied together to keep it upright with doorways and small rooms.
Thanks for coming to the forest, see you again next time!
