Our Week in the Forest
Weβve had an out of this world week - truly infinitely great! βΎοΈ Why, you ask? Well, for many reasons - but particularly thanks to our two amazing space-themed days! πΈβ¨
We kicked things off on Monday with all the force Pluto had when it was booted from the solar system! π The day was all about celebrating women in science. We shared real-life stories about incredible women in STEM, while some friends blasted off in our forest spaceship! π With space-themed books in hand, we settled in for a journey deep into the solar system aboard our rocket ship. ππ
On Tuesday, inspired by the childrenβs interests, we continued to make space for all things space! πͺ Our rocket ship returned and while some friends jetted off into the stars, others stayed grounded to man - or rather wo-man - the base station in honour of our women in STEM theme. There, our budding mathematicians worked around the clock to ensure mission success, solving complex equations like 5 + 6 without visual cues. π§ π’ NASA - watch this space! π π
In the morning, some children requested a true historical story. Staying with our theme, Jemima shared a simplified, child-friendly version of the Apollo space rescue mission. π π©βπ It was a day with gravity - and plenty of heat (almost as hot as Houston), but thankfullyβ¦ no problems! βοΈ π°οΈ
On Wednesday, we decided to come back down to Earth - and stay grounded. So grounded, in fact, that we spent the day focused on mindfulness in the forest! π³ π§ββοΈ
We love forest bathing at Fulham and weβre lucky enough to now have our very own resident yoga teacher-educator, Irem! The children set out on an adventure walk and found the perfect spot for some yoga - it's not quite full inner peace just yet... but certainly a step closer!
π
Our mini yogis especially loved the animal-inspired poses: pigeons, dolphins, dogs (the downward kind of course), fish, cats, cows and even camels - it felt like we were in the middle of a forest zoo! π π πͺ The children were amazing of course - oh, to have the flexibility of a two-year-old!
Back at camp, the kids dove into the mud kitchen with full creative flair to whip up a very special birthday cake for our friend Lara! π Our tiny chefs worked tirelessly and created something that could rival a royal wedding cake (at least in imagination and mud content!).
In the afternoon, to celebrate Laraβs birthday and tie back into our space theme, each child chose a planet - and our birthday star took a symbolic journey around the sun three times. π π π It was a rocking celebrationβ¦ or should I say rocket celebration! π π
On Thursday, our special activity was an exciting adventure to the natural adventure playground in the palace grounds! πΏ π°
Our Little Forest Folk-ers are incredible climbers. While we love a good climbing frame at Fulham, nothing beats climbing real trees - or in this case, massive fallen logs. Some were as big as vintage Mini Coopers π π³
Our learning focus for the younger children has been developing play around props and storytelling. With this in mind, Georgia led a magical, extended lunchtime story session - nearly a whole hour long! The children were captivated and completely immersed.
In the afternoon, our little ones dove into home-based role play. After all, while space is amazing... thereβs truly no place like home! π‘ β¨
Speaking of home - whoβs ready for the weekend? π
