Wimbledon - Fun and Adventure and a Very Busy Week!

Our Week in the Forest

The forest has been a busy place this week, full of fun and adventure! We have been talking about the weather as it’s been changing each day, using everything it’s had to offer to add to our exploring.

The rain has created some gigantic puddles which we have measured. We used different items to collect the water and then poured it onto another container to see if they were the right size. Some of the buckets had lines on them so we could see exactly how much water was in each and we spoke about millilitres and litres.

We also used the water in our mud kitchen when we were creating delicious recipes. Adding the rain water to mud and leaves meant the children could mix it round easier, using their utensils to combine everything. Then we took it over to the seated area, poured it into cups and onto plates for our customers to try!

We have also been helping the forest to recover during these cold months and adding more to make it look alive and well! We found a mini disused Christmas tree and wanted to replant it to give it another life. The children helped to dig the hole using shovels - we had to make sure it was the right depth. We then spoke about what the tree needs from the ground and how it gets nutrients at the roots. Once we got to the right depth everyone helped to lower the tree into place to make sure it was secure. It looks great in the forest and is so fun to see everyday!

It has been a great week, we love being able to explore the forest in so many different kinds of weather. We can learn a great deal from the weather and the seasons, it’s wonderful that we can start that from such a young age in the forest!
