Twickenham - A Gruffalo Obstacle Course Through the Woods!

Our Week in the Forest
This week we have had loads of fun with literature. The Gruffalo activities throughout the forest to support the book included an obstacle course through the woods avoiding the snake, owl fox and Gruffalo. We also had a sensory play area called ‘roasted fox’ which consisted of rice and red paint which we stirred, shovelled and scooped whilst re-telling the story.

On another day we introduced “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” to the children and we had a mud kitchen set-up where we could create chocolate yummyness, a craft table full of children creating golden tickets and a clay table where we could make blocks of chocolate.

Another day, a very creative educator introduced some activities around the story of “Jack and the Beanstalk”. We painted loo roll tubes green and then cut out some small green leaves which we stuck on before threading all the tubes on a long piece of string. After hanging it up high, we had a beanstalk stretching up to the sky! We also made small beans from clay and painted them brown as we acted out the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

The Moomins were back in the forest again yesterday and we had a puppet theatre made from a huge cardboard box. The children took turns with the puppets to tell stories and express themselves and how they were feeling, this in turn led to a rock concert as our little rockstars made music and sang their favourite tunes such as “we will rock you”

Thanks for coming to the forest, see you again next time!
