Twickenham - Hot Days Spent by the River

Our Week in the Forest

The hot weather has stayed with us this week, we have been keeping cool and enjoying plenty of water play and time by the river.

Our river walks have been a real highlight. The children noticed dragonflies skimming across the water, explored different river plants and even spotted a jay bird enjoying a wash in the shallows. These moments sparked lovely conversations about wildlife while giving everyone the chance to cool down. Back at base, a small group worked together to repair one of our guitars using tools, showing care, focus and great teamwork.

Water exploration has brought lots of excitement. The children investigated large ice blocks with sticks and small toys frozen inside, carefully observing how quickly they melted in the sunshine. They enjoyed feeling the icy water and talking about what happens when something cold warms up. Ramps and pipes were also set up to explore how water moves, encouraging experimentation, cooperation and problem-solving.

Creativity has flowed just as much as the water. The ground became a canvas for colourful chalk drawings, large blocks were stacked high in construction challenges, and treasure maps were designed and decorated with leaves and petals. Role play added even more energy to the week, with superheroes on duty and rescue missions underway.

Despite the heat, the children have remained enthusiastic and engaged, making the most of the shade and staying well hydrated. It’s been a joyful week of splashing, creating, exploring, and learning together in the sunshine.
