Our Week in the Forest
What a joyful and adventurous time we’ve had together in the forest this week! We were immersed in play, exploration and discovery, making the most of every moment outdoors.
From the very start, imagination was in full bloom. Children created rich stories while playing with dinosaurs and trucks around camp and inside a special den nearby, which quickly became a much-loved space. Their play flowed naturally, guided by creativity and teamwork. At the tuff tray, our little explorers showed great focus while matching colours and recreating patterns using colourful sticks. These soon became tools for writing their names and designing beautiful flowers. Others challenged themselves on the slack-line, carefully testing their balance, perseverance and confidence.
Adventure was never far away as we set off on forest walks, observing seasonal changes and signs of winter. We noticed snowdrops blooming near the trees and listened to the calming sound of the waterfall, which seemed to be flowing a little faster after the rain. Wet weather didn’t slow us down - instead, it brought new discoveries. Our little adventurers became thoughtful wildlife helpers, gently rescuing worms and placing them safely under leaves. We also spotted a fascinating little insect that sparked curiosity and discussion about how insects grow and change.
Imaginative play continued back at camp, where the children acted out the story of the Three Little Pigs in our tarp tent, filling the forest with laughter and excitement. Music and movement lifted our spirits as we sang rhymes, acted out songs and even enjoyed a cheerful dance party together.
Collaboration shone throughout the week as younger and older children worked side by side, including running a busy “cake factory,” carefully mixing and baking delicious pretend cakes in pots. Quieter moments were just as special, with shared stories about winter and animals that hibernate, encouraging curiosity and thoughtful discussion.
Physical play was a big highlight too. The swing was well loved and many children confidently climbed trees, showing bravery, strength and trust in their abilities.
It has been a week filled with creativity, cooperation, resilience and joy in nature. We look forward to many more forest adventures ahead!
