Our Week in the Forest
The children have learned and learned and learned this week! At the start of the week, our lovely team were introduced to how to notice ‘the first signs of spring’, by looking for flower shoots, such as daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells. They also looked at tree and bramble branches to see if they could see any new shoots or buds growing.
We had some amazing puddle hunts, especially on Tuesday, and the children learned about beluga whales and their use of echolocation to find their food! Our little explorers then created their own string telephones and loved communicating over longer distances.
Our curious group also learned about solitary bees and other solitary animals, that like to hibernate and support their home-making, they took to using a drill and made some habitat and hibernation holes in bricks and breeze blocks for them.
As well as all of this, our intrepid explorers have been learning about the Arctic and the Antarctic. To run alongside this, the children have been freezing water to make their own versions of icebergs. This week, they had to decide whether their icebergs would float or sink in water, after this they learned that even though the water was cold, their ‘icebergs’ still melted because the water was still warmer than the iceberg itself. Our educators then linked this to the changing climate in the Arctic and the Antarctic, meaning that the habitat was changing for the animals there, including the polar bear, meaning that they may become endangered.
All of this learning, alongside tree climbing, monster hunting, slackline balancing, ‘fire’ building, adventure walking, puzzle solving and rain drop dodging!
Enjoy your weekend everyone - see you next month! (By that we mean Monday!)
