Wimbledon Village - Lunar New Year and the Great Race

Our Week in the Forest

What a lovely holiday camp week we have had! We have had some slightly drier days this week, with temperatures climbing and the sunshine making a well appreciated appearance slightly more than previous weeks!

We have had a busy week! On Tuesday, we learnt about Shrove Tuesday, the story of lent, and why we embrace pancakes for the day! We actually carried this on and into Wednesday, as the children were enjoying this so much! We had some pancakes in the forest and the children were given the opportunity to juice their own lemons and squish their own strawberries and raspberries inside the pestle and mortar, before topping and eating their pancakes!

We have also learnt about Ramadan this week, and Shahana being Muslim herself, spent some time explaining fasting to everyone, and why she does this. We hope all of our Muslim friends and families have a very peaceful Ramadan.

We have also spent time educating the children about the Lunar New Year. We read the book “The Great Race” which is a children’s adaptation of the story of Chinese New Year and we also enjoyed exploring a tuff tray filled with rice, Chinese takeaway menus and little red envelopes to symbolise the start of Lunar New Year. A big happy Lunar New Year to all of our Chinese families.

It has been great to see some returning faces for holiday camp, until next time, have a great weekend everyone!
