Wimbledon - Making Music, Patterns and Beats

Our Week in the Forest

A busy week all round at Little Forest Folk Wimbledon! Our new starters have settled in so well and have really found their feet in the forest. We have had so many fun activities out for everyone, from instrument making to pasta crafts!

The children have been exploring making music by following patterns and beats. We have spent time this week making shakers using rice and lentils, as well as using wooden beads that link with the colours on flags. The children have had to use their fine motor skills to create the instruments and then follow different beats to make wonderful sounds. We even had music from Scotland, Italy and France!

We have also been looking at our gross motor skills and developing our obstacle course. The children have been helping to move logs and wooden planks, deciding where they should go and carrying them into place. They worked together to decide how far apart each log should be and also decided to use the plank to make a seesaw. This showed great independent play and testing ideas with each other!

Some of the children also put their fine motor skills to good use by weaving bird nests from willow, recently. They started with a cross in the middle, made from sticks, and then used willow soaked in water to wrap around the sticks and create a woven nest. It was a great activity to look at habitats and how we can care for the animals around us.

Another amazing week in the forest and we look forward to seeing what next week brings!
